Duties and Responsibilities

A Contract Administration Engineer is responsible for managing the contractual and commercial aspects of engineering or construction projects. The role ensures that all parties comply with contract terms, and that changes, payments, and claims are handled properly to protect the project’s financial and legal position.

Key Responsibilities

1. Contract Management

  • Administer project contracts from initiation to completion
  • Interpret contract terms, conditions, and specifications
  • Ensure all parties comply with contractual obligations

2. Variations & Claims

  • Manage change orders, variations, and contract amendments
  • Assist in evaluating claims, including Extension of Time (EOT)
  • Prepare and review contractual correspondence and notices

3. Payment & Cost Control

  • Review contractor payment applications and invoices
  • Verify quantities and work completed for certification
  • Support cost tracking and financial reporting

4. Tendering & Procurement

  • Assist in preparing tender documents and contract agreements
  • Participate in bid evaluation and contractor selection
  • Support procurement and subcontract administration

5. Documentation & Record Keeping

  • Maintain contract records, logs, and correspondence
  • Track variations, claims, and contract milestones
  • Ensure proper filing and document control systems

6. Risk & Compliance

  • Identify contractual risks and support mitigation strategies
  • Ensure compliance with contract conditions and regulations
  • Monitor insurances, bonds, and guarantees

7. Coordination & Communication

  • Liaise with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients
  • Support resolution of contractual issues and disputes
  • Participate in meetings and prepare minutes
